What's Next?
(by Lord Gorlan of the Red Lands, 1998)
(Tune: "Who's Next?" by Tom Lehrer)
First we started the fire with our own wood
And it got burning really good
But we didn't bring enough, we soon learned
So we looked around for what else would burn
(Chorus:)
What's next? What next can we put on the fire
We want to make the flames go higher and higher
We fought all the battles, We've taken the town
But we wont feel compete, till it's burned to the ground
(Alternate chorus just:)
What's Next?
Well all the stray branches were the first to go
Some chopped up pallets increased the glow
We added in all the Coleman fuel
And a shield someone left leaning on a stool
Chorus:
Then we scrounged up a cot or two
and they went up in flames of blue
There was a picnic table right next door
In it went and the fire roared
Chorus:
There was a pink pavilion we couldn't stand
So we threw it in and it burned real grand
A couple merchants booths were just laying around
So in they went and they burned real sound
Chorus:
We found some archer's arrows and bows
In they went and the fire glowed
Then we threw in the songbooks one by one
But we still needed more when they were done
Chorus:
Well the feast was done, so we got the chairs
We chopped them up amid the stares
Then the tables went next, and then constable came
But we just added both into the flame
Chorus:
The Story Behind this Song
As has been mentioned before, Fat Guys tend to like fires. I think the
greatest example of self control I've ever seen was at Double Wars a few
years ago. There was a huge stack of wood ten feet high and 50 yards long
just off the fighting fields. When myself, Little Helmut and Mathew found
it while looking for fire wood, we all concluded that it would make a fire
that could be seen from the moon. It was hard but we didn't light it up.
(But we thought about it).
