No Elf Ears in the S.C.A.
(Tune "Y.M.C.A." by the Village People)
By Gorlan of the Red Lands, 1998
No elf ears in the S_C_A
No dwarf beards in the S_C_A
We don't want Klingons here
This isn't a CON
You wear elf ears and you'll be gone
Young lord, if you into medieval times
I say young lord,
There's some rules you must mind
I mean, young lord,
We recreate history
We just don't go for Sci-Fi or fantasy
So young lord, you can have a fun time
Goes as a Celt
Or a Tudor refined
So young lord,
If you listen to me
You can have fun in the so-ci-aty
But remember
Chorus:
No elf ears in the S_C_A
No dwarf beards in the S_C_A
We don't want Klingons here
This isn't a CON
You wear elf ears and you'll be gone
No elf ears in the S_C_A
No Dwarf beards in the S_C_A
We don't use spell balls here
We use rattan
Come on fight like a man
Young lord, we don't pull our blows
I mean Young Lord
It's more manly you know
You can go there
And fight in a huge melee
And hack and slash the whole day
And then at night, when the fighting is done
I tell you, young lord
You can schmooze and have fun
You can brag of your fights
Or sing by the fires
Or go Squarking with all the Squires.
Just Remember:
Chorus:
The Story Behind this Song
There is always some culture shock between Live role playing groups and the
SCA. And I hate to admit it that many SCAdians I have known can get very
snobbish when dealing with or discussing Live Role players or LARFS. To my
mind there are only two significant differences. 1) In the SCA we fight at
full force. 2) The live role players use Spell, Bards, Clerics, etc giving
there battles more of a Dungeons and Dragons/Fantasy flavor. I've had fun
in both environments. I don't see either one as the "Correct" way to play,
just different. The intention of this song is poke fun at some of the
attitudes I have heard expressed.
