Landsknecht at Estrella (or They've Got Elvis!)

(by Lord Gorlan of the Red Lands, 1998)
(Tune: "The Ballad of the Green Berets" by Army Staff Sgt. Barry Sadler)
(based on a "No Sh*t, there I Was" story)

    At Estrella number five
The Landsknecht, in a stupor arrived
They fought for beer, they fought for booze
Payment in advance, to your side choose.

They drank their pay all through the night
And in the morning, they were quite a site
The first battle, they slept through
But they were armored up for number two.

With faces green, with faces pale
They faced the King as he yelled
When he was done, his rage complete
Their leader hurled right his feet!

He said, "Go take out that shield wall"
So on their knees, they started to crawl
The King got mad, the King got sore
His Landsknecht were on the floor.

    But inspiration came his way
His Landsknecht all heard him say
"They've captured Elvis! He's behind their lines
"Now on your feet - it's rescue time!"

"They've got Elvis!" the troops did cry
And on their feet, they all did rise
And to the shield wall, they did charge
The hole they punched was very large.

They died like dogs, but fought all day
Looking for Elvis along the way
The other side soon grew to fear
These insane fans hung over from beer

And so the King did win the day
But still there was a price to pay
His Landsknecht searched through the night
Calling for Elvis till the morning light

So listen well to my advice:
With Landsknecht, when you pay their price
No advance beer, no booze for free
With Landsknecht, pay them C.O. D.

History. The Story Behind this Song

This is based upon a "No Sh*t there I was" story, from a gentleman who's persona is Landsknecht. He recently move here from Atenvelt. I have no clue if there is any truth behind the tale, but when I heard it, I was almost rolling on the floor. The story was just too good not make into a song. The year was chosen for the rhyme. I cannot recall which Estrella that the storyteller said this happened at. The Landsknecht were a band of early 16th century mercenaries known for their multicolored, slashed clothing. A well done piece of Landsknecht garb will overload your eyeballs.
