Knight my Squire
(by Lord Gorlan of the Red Lands, 1998)
(Tune: "Light my Fire" by the Doors)
You know that its long over due.
He's mastered every form you could desire.
His chivalry is beyond reproach.
He no longer should remain a squire.
Chorus:
Come on Sire, Knight my squire,
Come on Sire, Knight my squire,
It's time his red belt should be retired.
It's true that he was once a rake.
He'd booze and schmooze around the fires,
But it's been three years since his big mistake,
When he gave into a Queen's Desires.
Chorus:
Its time to overlook the past.
How many years will he have to pay
For stupid things he has forsworn?
He's now a model of how we all should play.
Chorus:
I know the old king was your friend,
But think hard and you know it's true
That my squire didn't do anything,
Except what the old queen asked him too.
Chorus:
The Story Behind this Song
Heard the song on the radio, and the title just poped
up. I also met a Squire recently who just came from another kingdom.
After watching him fight and how he comported himself off the field, I
surprised he was still a squire. As the story came out, he mentioned that
in his earlier days he was quite a rake, and those earlier years are still
being held against him. I took a little poetic license and invented an
incident with a queen.
