Playing Hide the Favor
(by Lord Gorlan of the Red Lands, 1998)
(tune: "Gypsy Rover" - also works good to "Pop! Goes the Weasel")
The Fool and the Count were sharing a tent
For a whole week up in Nordmark
The Fool came up with a new game
He though it would be a fun lark
The Count had just gotten a favor to show
He was a Friend of the Fat Guys
When he entered the tent the first night
The Fool gave him a surprise.
Chorus:
And all thru the night
Could be heard the delight
It woke up every neighbor
For in the tent
The Count and the Fool
Were playing hide the favor.
The ruckus got louder, the people came out
To see just what the fuss was
The Count's tent was shaking and moving about
But nobody stopped them be-cause
The shadows on the wall of the tent
Allowed them to see everything , and so
They got their chairs and cases of beer
And sat down to watch the free show.
Chorus:
The show it lasted until the sun rose
It really was amusing
But all good games must come to an end
It no longer mattered who was losing
When in the morning the Fool left the tent
He was cheered at very loudly
It was the most applause he ever had heard
With tears he gave a bow proudly.
Chorus:
The Story Behind this Song
On the ferry ride up to Double Wars XI, Count
Jurgen was made a Friend of the Fat Guys and was given a Favor. We gave him
a hard time the first few days because he wasn't wearing it. He finally
confessed that he had lost it somewhere in the tent he was sharing with
Luke the Fool and two other people. The Favor was finally found under
Luke's bed, and for the rest of the event, there were jokes about the Count
and the Fool playing hide the favor.
