Fatguys Banner - Vert, a tankard Or.

"Get a Life," says the Baron

(by Gorlan of the Red Lands, 1998)
(To the tune of "Pop goes the Weasel"
and sung in a nasally voice)

Round and round the Baron they go,
    Trying to gain his favor.
The courtiers noses are getting quite brown.
"Get a life," says the Baron.

    Chorus:

      The Baron says,
      "You've all got to learn
To work and play well with others.
      Don't waste my time
      With childish games,
Grow up or go back to your mothers."

    When flattery failed, they complained to the King;
They say that he won't listen
    To backstabing rumors and innuendos.
"Get a life," says the Baron.

    Chorus:

The King called up the Baron one night,
He said the he was con-cerned,
Cause courtiers can't handle clean politics.
"Get a life," says the Baron.

    Chorus:

The courtiers are really at quite a loss,
He won't listen to their slander.
Candor is something they don't understand.
"Get a life," says the Baron.

    Chorus:

The courtiers hope he will not last long,
Cause he insists that they all play nice.
They haven't had lives in such a long time,
They don't know how to follow his ad-vice.

    Chorus:

History. The Story Behind this Song

One of my few serious songs. A response to some silly local politics that have been dragging on for the last few years in my local group. It got so bad at times that I used to sign off my E-mails with "It's hard to live large when you live in Mayberry RFD." Leaving out specific names and incidents, the Barony got so disfunctional that it was put under a Vicker. We became a Barony again half a year ago and for the most part, things have been going well. But the "Courtiers" have started to surface again. This song is my answer to the "courtiers" as they try to drag me into their plots and schemes.
