They Made Us Fight At Night
(by Gorlan of the Red Lands, 1998)
(tune: "I Could Have Danced All Night" from My Fair Lady)
They made us fight at night
They made us fight at night
At the end I was really sore
We couldn't see the swings
Just heard the helmet rings
A silly way to play at war.
They put us in a ring of torches
Then the marshalls called out "Lay-ON"
We swung at invis-able foes
And prayed for legal blows
They made us fight fight fight at night
They made us fight at night
They made us fight at night
It really was insane
We hit both friends and foes
And never saw the blows
The whole idea was lame
They put us in a ring of torches
Then the marshalls called out "Lay-ON"
We swung at invis-able foes
And prayed for legal blows
They made us fight fight fight at night
They made us fight at night
They made us fight at night
I really don't know why
I swung at a shadow
And gave myself a killing blow
It made me want to cry
They put us in a ring of torches
Then the marshalls called out "Lay-ON"
We swung at invis-able foes
And prayed for legal blows
They made us fight fight fight at night
The Story Behind this Song
In Sweden, there is very little sun during the winter. At a few events this year they decided to try torch-light fighting. While I did not
personally fight in these, I have been in enough tourneys and fighter
practices where the final rounds were fought after the sun went down. The
tales I have heard from those who did participate matched my experiences
in night fighting.
