The Best Thing About the Double Wars is the Ferry Ride Back Home
(by Lord Gorlan of the Red Lands, 1998)
(Tune: "City of New Orleans" by Arlo Guthrie)
Riding on the Ferry from the Double Wars
A good hot shower, then the sauna for an hour
The night is young, we don't arrive till morning
So let's drink and enjoy each others company
It was a week of camping
A week of war
No one really wanted more
We had fighting, feasts and singing by the fires
Pirate Punch
and Rocket Fuel
The Hubbly Bubbly was really cool
But after a week it was time to get on back home.
(Chorus:)
The Double Wars was fun but now it's over
We had our fun,
But all good things must end
There were lots things to enjoy at the Double Wars
But best part was the Ferry Ride back home
Giving feet rubs to the wench in the night club
Looks of envy from the College girls on board
I'm not quite sure what is happening under the table,
But Angus's face is turning red as a beet.
And we rehash all the battles
Our heroic acts and deeds
Fought on fields, bridges, woods and towns
The bartender says that it's last call
So another round for one and all
We're so hyped up, nothing can bring us down
Chorus:
In the morning we will all go off our own ways
Get in our dragons and move out on the road
But now it's time to talk about the last few days
Before mundania can reassert its load
It's one of those nights we hope won't end
Sharing moments with good friends
We nurse our beers, because the bar is closed
And talk unit we've had our fill
With a little planning, it could have been better still
But in the end we all headed back to our rooms.
Chorus:
The Story Behind this Song
The Double Wars is my favorite event held in Europe. This song is in no way
intended to diminish that event. On the overnight ferry back home, a large
group of us gathered in the nightclub and just had an absolutely grand
time. Normally for me, some of the best times I've had at events are the
night before the events start and you're greeting friends that you may not
have seen for awhile. The close down of an event is usually a sad time
filled with good-byes. This trip was an exception.
