Courtesy
(by Lord Gorlan of the Red Lands, 1998)
(Tune: "Yesterday", by the Beatles)
Courtesy,
It seems there's less now than there used to be
Some people I just don't want by me
Without a minimum of courtesy
Courtesy
Is the essence of the dream for me
To attempt to be as we hope to be
Yes I believe in courtesy.
I don't mean to tell you how to play
That's not my way
But you should know
In my camp, show others respect
If you can't, then just please Go-o-o-o-o
Courtesy
Be polite, even if you don't agree
Respect for others is the key
All it takes is courtesy
Courtesy
Play well with others, It not hard you see
And you'll find things get done easily
With a little bit of courtesy
I don't mean to tell you how to play
That's not my way
But you should know
In my camp, show others respect
If you can't, then just please Go-o-o-o-o
The Story Behind this Song
For the last year I've seen a disturbing trend, of several
folks being extremely rude in the name of courtesy. At one indoor event,
there was only one revel hall. At one end we were having a bardic circle,
at the other end all others could talk and socialize. Well the
conversations started getting loud, so one person from the bardic circle
stood up and shouted for everyone else to be quite. He sat down and then
said, "And to think we call ourselves a courteous society." This song is a
reminder to the clueless of what courtesy is all about.
