Give Me Two Rattan Broadswords
(by Gorlan of the Red Lands, 1999)
(Tune: "Two Pina Coladas" by Shawn Camp, Benita Hill, Sandy Mason)
When I started to fight,
I was taught by a knight,
To use a sword and a shield.
I worked hard on the pell
Learned to target it well
Till I could hold my own on the field
But I remember the day
I started two handed frays
I was slaying my foes by the score
It was then that I knew
This is what I should do
I won’t use a shield no more
Chorus:
So give me two rattan broadswords
I want one for each hand
I want to fight with Earl Morgan
And leave him face down in the sand
Then I’ll go for Duke Elffin or Matthew
I tell you Florentine can be grand
So give me two rattan broadswords
I tell you I’m a Florentine Fan
So day after day
I fought the two handed way
And learned to target with either hand
After hard blows
I learned to block several foes
And no longer got knocked on my can
I tried to use great sword
But I got little reward
And the same was true with a glave
So I have confess
When it comes to the test
I guess I’m just a Florentine slave.
Chorus:
When the fighting is thick
Yes, you gotta be quick
And be able to dodge pretty fast
And keep your armor real light
So you can run and still fight
And have the energy to last
Some say you must use a shield
To stay alive on the field
That’s fine if you only want to survive
But you must understand
With two sticks in my hands,
I’ve never felt more alive.
Chorus:
The Story Behind this Song
I don't know where this one came from. The song "Give Me Two Pina Coladas" (ed. note - that's "Two Pina Coladas", sung by Garth Brooks) was on the radio a lot last year. It started with the chorus, substituting Rattan Broadswords for Pina coladas and Earl Morgan instead of Captain Morgan. The rest of was just extrapolation from that start. I have known many two stick junkies, and am myself a Florentine Maul Weapon junkie (I like fighting with axe and mace).
